Since 2011
A salon that learned every texture because everybody walked in
Style Inn opened on Half Way Tree Road in 2011 with two chairs and one rule that has not changed: nobody gets passed to another salon because of their hair type.
That sounds obvious and it is not. Plenty of places cut beautifully and quietly only cut one kind of hair. We spent the first three years training for the rest — coils, locs, relaxed, fine, colour-damaged, transitioning — because the person in the chair should not have to research whether she is welcome before she telephones.
Six stylists now. Everyone came up through an apprenticeship here, with a senior at their shoulder for two years before they took their own book.
How we work
Three things we will always do
None of them cost extra and all three are the reason people come back rather than the reason they came.
Talk before we cut
Fifteen minutes, every first appointment, free. If what you want will not survive your morning routine, you will hear that in the chair rather than in the mirror afterwards.
Quote before we start
Long, dense or heavily coloured hair takes longer and costs more. That number is agreed before the gown goes on, not added at the desk.
Show you how
Every finish ends with five minutes of showing you how to do it at home, and a straight answer about which products are worth buying.
Marcia told me to wait six weeks before colouring and charged me nothing for the consultation. I have not been anywhere else since.
Danielle explained every pass and the heat setting she was using. It held for two weeks in August, which I did not believe was possible.
They quoted me in the chair for braids and the number at the desk was the same number. Every time.
